Philosophy on Birth

All births are powerful rites of passage for both parents and infants.  For women, birth signifies their transition from maiden to mother. For the infant, birth is the entrance into human society outside of the world known in uteruo. Doulas help parents consciously cross over the threshold while being aware of options and being empowered to make informed choices along the way. Birth occurs best when these rites of passage are honored and supported without the cascading impacts of unnecessary medical interventions too common in American practices today. Doulas support women in listening to and trusting in their bodies through this momentous, emotional, physically challenging, and spiritually charged experience. Doulas work with breathing and position techniques to move through the experience of labor as naturally as possible and support the healthiest of deliveries. Multiple studies show again and again that a doula's support through labor and delivery minimize the number of interventions received, decrease the time in labor, and provide the couple with nurturing support through a critical time in their lives. Creating a loving and supportive environment for every mother and newborn serves as the foundational inspiration for Glenn's work.
